This in-service progam assists your staff to change
from a facility/staff focused care system to a truly resident
focused care system in as little as five days.
In this time, as they experience the benefits to the residents
as well as to themselves, we have been able to have most staff support
the changes in their attitudes and their practices.
Contemporary practice is about:
- effective time management
- profitable financial and resource management
- is resident focused and supports staff knowledge & integrity
- using evidenced based practice to minimise work effort but
maximise effect and care
- meeting Accreditation, Continuous Improvement Standards, and
- maximising your funding claims
Consider this program if:
- your staff always complain about lack of time, this may be inefficient
time and resources use
- staff have routines e.g. showering, waking residents, 2nd hourly
toileting, set mealtimes, this usually indicates facility/staff
focused care not resident focused care
- a common response to change is 'this is the way we have always
done it', e.g. side to side pressure turns
- there are many group activities; you have residents who still
wander and have Sundowners syndrome; there are public televisions
in use
- staff are not using researched care, e.g. still using soap &
talcum powder, aperients 3rd daily; and or
- you are losing funding or not meeting the standards
How the program works and what is included.
Age Concern staff are on the floor with your staff observing
practices and effecting changes as required. This provides one to
one training-/education and individual staff support, particularly
for those who have difficulty with change.
Age Concern staff will be available at least once during an evening
and night shift, each of the different mealtimes, morning and evening
routines as well as an activity program. The number of hours we
allocate to the different shifts and activities will depend on the
program length you choose.
You may choose to arrange some structured lectures during our visit.
Please see selection of lecture
topics available or discuss
your special requirements with one of our staff.
The program also includes:
- a review and discussion of all care related documentation, particularly
in relation to funding and legal requirements
- a written report of our visit detailing findings, suggestions,
references and changes already accomplished with confirmation
of staff commitment
Why is this program effective?
Change is often more acceptable if staff can see the effect in their
own work place. Direct staff contact 'on the floor' and an 'outsider
with no other agenda' are the effective change components of this
program.
Program Options
Three (3) day program. Age Concern staff will work split
shifts to have contact with as many staff as possible. At least

'routine'.
Program Fees
Australia (all States, Territories and regions)
AU$990 per day, plus travel and accommodation costs where applicable.
Other countries
As above. Please contact
us for details of availability.
Five (5) day program, Age Concern staff will work split

time.
